Morning with the Dead - Bringing Our Loved Ones Back to Life

Hosted by Benjie Lasseau

Morning with the Dead - Bringing Our Loved Ones Back to Life
Create a Sacred Cloak for someone you loved. Immerse yourself in memories of this person who is gone. Using ritual, storytelling, gesture and craft, relive your shared past in community with others.

Initially, your remembered guest will be evoked by a piece of clothing hung on a clothesline with three referential objects beneath.

Also bring an 8x10 representation of remembered face, and 2 photographs of you both together. Be exuberant in your memorabilia: letters, pictures, photos, small objects - anything that can be sewn or glued to cloak. Bring favorite initialed tools, a packed lunch, journal and pen. Fabric and additional tools will be provided.

Participants will dialogue and interact with cloaked figure. The workshop ends with tea and snacks for participants surrounded by their creations.

Benjie has produced and performed 7 solo shows, studied improv with Terry Sendgraff for 20 years and took 2 workshops with Anna Deavere Smith. Jessica is earning a doctorate in Embodiment, with a focus on Grief. Both completed Hospice training at Sutter Care at Home.

Three parking spots are provided first-come, first-served at Pacific and Polk St. Otherwise, allow additional time for parking.
