The Art of Grieving: Toward a Life Well-Lived

The Art of Grieving: Toward a Life Well-Lived
It’s only at the end, looking back that we’ll be able to see how our life turned out. Till then, the most valuable skills worth acquiring are those that allow us to get good at grieving our losses.

Repeated losses are a part of everyone’s life; accidents, illness, job loss, disappointments, –some anticipated, some not. But in these unprecedented times of the Covid19 pandemic, most everyone is experiencing a tsunami of losses. Like walking into the waves of a turbulent surf, how can we find our balance? How can we keep from becoming inundated, exhausted, and overcome?

Join Sheila K Collins, PhD and members of the InterPlay-based Wing & A Prayer Pittsburgh Players improv company for this interactive 75-minute long exploration of grieving as a life-long art. We'll use the InterPlay tools of dancing, singing, storytelling and music to identify and hone our grieving skills. We’ll share inspiration and advocate for what it takes to get good at navigating challenges of life, loss and love. Participants will be invited to share snippets of their stories and what they are learning about grieving through the time of this pandemic. Guest artists from the worldwide InterPlay community will join.

InterPlay is an active, improvisational, creative approach to unlocking the wisdom of the body. As an international social movement, InterPlay is dedicated to enabling ease and balance in human relationships across cultures and between people of different generations and backgrounds. Its practitioners have found that creatively playing with serious issues in community often gets us further than simply working on them.

Dr. Sheila K Collins PhD is a dancing social worker, grief advocate and author of Warrior Mother: Fierce Love, Unbearable Loss and Rituals that Heal and an upcoming book, The Art of Grieving, She directs InterPlay Pittsburgh and the InterPlay-based improvisational performance company Wing & A Prayer Pittsburgh Players.
