The Art of Ritual: Grief Weaving Workshop
Join Leaves With You founder, Shaina Garfield, for a ritual weaving workshop. Using the technique of tying rope called macrame, we will be weaving a wall hanging to tell your personal story and honor your deceased loved one. Shaina will teach the group how to tie the knots and then provide prompts to memorialize and meditate as you weave your art. This workshop uses creativity as a form of healing, as we all have a natural creative capacity. After the ritual, you will have a personal work of art to revisit and honor your loved one over time.
Who is this ritual for:
This workshop is for anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one. Understanding that grieving is a non-linear process, Shaina invites you to join us no matter when you experienced your loss. This workshop is open to all levels, as no macrame or art experience is previously required.

Please prepare for the weaving workshop by reading the information below:
Supplies needed:
Traditional macrame is used with rope however, you can also use an old t-shirt to cut up as a fun alternative. Please use which ever option is accessible to you. Both create beautiful wall hangings!
- Macrame rope – Total 80 feet (suggested 5mm thick) OR one old t-shirt
- Wooden dowel, stick, or rod – 1 foot long (suggested about 1/4 inch diameter)
- Scissors
- Tape measure or yardstick
Don't worry about figuring up set up! Beginning one week prior to the event, you will receive videos with clear instructions on how to prepare your wall hanging, both for rope and a t-shirt. Please register at least one day ahead workshop to prepare.
