Parting Gifts: Experience Design for Legacy-Making and Integration

Hosted by

Swan Song (Laika Young and Katie Green)

Come explore the practice of creating beautiful experiences for loved ones as a way of honoring them, creating lasting memories, and integrating their transition. Together we’ll share stories, discuss key questions and tools, and create a moving experience for someone we care about.

In February of 2017, one of Laika’s close friends, Honeysun, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Honeysun decided to return to the UK to spend the final month of her life with her family, and on her last night in San Francisco, Laika and a small group of friends brought 50 live butterflies to Honeysun’s room and created a ceremony to honor all that she had taught them and would continue to teach.

Please join us for an interactive workshop where we’ll explore the practice of creating beautiful experiences as a way of honoring our loved ones. These experiences may be an act of service for someone who is still with us, a way of paying tribute to someone who has passed, and a way of helping a community integrate the loss of someone they cared for.

Together we’ll share stories, discuss key questions and tools, and create a moving experience for someone we care about. The workshop will run for two hours, with the option to stay an additional hour at the end to continue designing and to be in community.
