"Trust your angels": Jonas Mekas, 95, talks life, creativity and purpose with John Leland

John Leland spent a year visiting Jonas for his bestseller "Happiness Is a Choice You Make: Lessons from a year among the oldest old," an experience that changed Leland's life. Find out why Jonas says, "I never worry," and "cultivate poetry and the saints."

Legendary filmmaker Jonas Mekas, 95, who entwined himself with artists like John Lennon and Andy Warhol, is now the last OG standing. Mekas once asked Jonas how, after all he had been through in Lithuania and Nazi Germany, he could call himself "a happy man." His answer was pure Jonas: "It's normal," he said. "It’s not normal not to sing, not to dance, not to like poetry, not to be interested in matters of spirit! I am a very very normal case. And I am happy. Happiness is a normal state.” If you could bottle the spirit of Jonas, you'd own the world. They'll talk some of his secrets, and his messages for the other five characters in "Happiness Is a Choice You Make: Lessons from a year among the oldest old." And he'll explain why he's really only 27. If you get it fully, please explain it to me.
