Join us to listen or share a memory, a song lyric, a poem, or a story to honor the loved ones lost due to COVID-19.

THE CITY’s MISSING THEM project is an ambitious effort to track down every New Yorker that died due to COVID-19 and write a story about them. What started in May as a digital memorial has now transformed into a two and a half day virtual event to honor and celebrate those we’ve lost. The event will include performances, writing workshops and most importantly, the stories shared with the MISSING THEM team, read by the families.

On Saturday, we are inviting families and friends to share something — whether it’s a memory, a song lyric, a poem, a story or whatever feels appropriate — to honor those no longer with us.

Our hope is that telling these stories in some small way will create avenues of connection and bring some comfort for those speaking and those bearing witness.

The folks who have written the more than 200 obituaries for MISSING THEM — students, reporters, volunteers — will read the obituaries and talk about their experience working with each family to share these stories.

If you’re apprehensive about sharing, but want to talk to someone, please let us know. We can connect you with one of our partners to help you through the process. You can contact us at missingthem@thecity.nyc.

We also want to invite people to listen, to bear witness to these stories and provide a generous ear and empathic heart to those sharing.

Join us on Saturday for this poignant and powerful gathering. Please sign up to either share a story or bear witness.
