Where are you?
You disappear; no longer here
This year you are Elsewhere
A rainbow that doesn’t end
A trick of light revealing the unsaid
A peace from the rain in my soul
Our future sold to Azrael
They say the name of Death
Like an old friend
You didn’t want to see
But you happened to meet
There’s an empty seat at the table
Not because you didn’t want to be here
Not because you didn’t care
Not because you were unaware
All who gather around
No longer hear the sound of your voice
It wasn’t by choice
I still sit next to you
And embrace the silent stream of tears
You would wipe away if you were here
And I grip the fancy table cloth
The best China dishes
The display that everything’s okay
And will the pain away
This holiday
They say there’s a time limit to the pain
Or times it is at its worst
But you deserve to know
Life without you hurts
They try to find a blessing in a curse
Their words aren’t buried like you in dirt
Instead they recommend
The intensity of grief is relieved over time
But I was yours
And you were mine
There will be days I can’t see through the storm
Or wiggle through the dirt like a worm
Determined to make it in the dark
You were my spark
So here I sit
Losing everything I planned
And I’ll tell you again
I’ll never beat around the bush
Or overlook the cranny and the nook
I’ll say it all as I fall to my knees
Pass the peas please
Someone says
I open my eyes
And feel your hand
The journey may be over for you
But I will fill your plate
And not hesitate
On this date
To tell you I understand
And stand to make a toast
That even though I can’t get you back
I will double your impact
And love just like you
As you were the glue to us all
I will find you Elsewhere
When it is my time
Until then
I am prepared
To be the light you left behind
I won’t just live by trying to rewind
Thank you for being the wind beneath my wings
The tears will continue to sting
But I hold onto your ending
That you had dignity all the way
And picked on me when I was shy
I long to find a better goodbye
Yet this is all that is here
I’ll always wait for you to appear
But today I will just hold you dear
Maybe I’ll find the place you rest
In the sky or in my head
I will seek the wisdom from life
I will not turn back from strife
I will simply be yours forever
Come what may, in any weather
We will always be together
Even if it’s Elsewhere
On a lonely cloud
I am bound to you
Where are you?
It’s like ABCs or 2 + 2
The formula is to love like you
