The Opportunity

The Development Director is a new, full-time position that was previously managed by consultants. You will work in close partnership with the Executive Director, Board Chair and agency partners to create and drive a Development Strategic Plan that supports the actualization of Reimagine’s mission. You will sustain and build upon the relationships already established, plan for and manage fundraising and income production for the next 24- 36 months and support the work to maximize income from a diverse range of revenue streams.

The successful candidate must have experience with metrics-driven cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship planning at a growth phase non-profit. This is a self-directed role that requires the leadership and vision to drive all fundraising and sponsorship activities with the full support of the organization and the Board. You will find no task too big or too small and should anticipate administrative responsibilities in addition to strategic big picture work. It is critical that the Development Director be a skilled communicator, comfortable engaging with donors and strategic partners at all levels of an organization. This position is based in San Francisco or New York but will have responsibilities driving fundraising from a local to global level.

Critical Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Identify key fundraising activities to meet target of $1-2 million annually

  • Prospect research, identification and outreach with appropriate case for giving or sponsorship

  • Deepen current donor engagement and increase gift levels

  • Grant identification, application and reporting

  • Tracking and reporting on fundraising goals and activities

  • Maintain accurate and confidential donor records and manage the CRM tool

  • Collaborate with Reimagine team and agencies to develop marketing, communication and collateral tools

  • Manage donor acknowledgement and thank you process

  • Design and manage VIP and donor cultivation experiences

  • Build an organization-wide culture of fundraising at Reimagine, supporting outreach and overall efforts for the Board and team members

Required Competencies and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years professional experience, minimum of 5 years proven experience in a development role at mission-driven organizations or non-profits

  • Demonstrated success in all facets of major gifts fundraising, including prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation, or equivalent experience in such fields as financial advising, sales, marketing, or non-profit management

  • Proven ability to develop effective, tailored strategies for identifying and cultivating prospects

  • Commitment to personalized fundraising, including regular face-to-face donor meetings, and outstanding one-on-one relationship-building skills

  • Record of securing donations or investments at the $10K+ level

  • Experience growing a donor or sales base and increasing revenue

  • Prior experience working with Board members and volunteers to increase their comfort and participation in fundraising and other development-related activities

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, as well as experience making individual and group presentations

  • Proficiency with Salesforce or another donor database and with Gsuite

  • Ease of use of workplace apps including Slack, Google apps, and similar tools

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; advanced degree or certification, such as a CFRE, is preferred
