Making Sense of Our Grief: Altars as Artful Remembrance
Join this inspiring and healing 3V (Visual | Virtual | Vigil) gathering designed to pay tribute to our love + loss through the pre-crafting and show & telling of multi-sensory Grief Altars.

Join Life-Cycle Celebrants Danna Schmidt & Holly Pruett for an inspiring and healing 3V (Visual | Virtual | Vigil) gathering designed to pay tribute to our love + loss during this uncommon time of a pandemic, through the pre-crafting of multi-sensory Grief Altars.

This event will begin with an opening reading and brief introduction of why personal altar & shrine-making is a necessary communal grief rite, and how engaging the senses helps us rekindle our love and memories and honor our losses in a more meaningful way.

It is a space to welcome all losses and particular forms of sorrows, such as the recent or long ago death of a loved one, the loss of livelihood or a milestone event, and our concerns for the world during this time of pandemic.

Everyone will be invited to participate in smaller grief circles where we’ll Show & Tell our commemorative altars and their honorees through the lens of our five senses.

Our time together will culminate with a closing song and visual tribute during which all will visually showcase one altar symbol together with a written word of gratitude as both gallery gesture and visual mosaic for how it is we each “make sense” of our Grief.

**(Please note that this is an interactive session. In advance of the session, all participants will create a small grief shrine or table display to show & tell in your small grief circles on the evening of the event. These altar items should honor at least 1 (and ideally all 5) of the senses...digital offerings are OK, too. Reference the "Event Checklist" emailed in advance for ideas, inspiration, and more information on how to prepare for this event.)
