In this conversation Activist, Writer, Organizer, Jill Bacharach will continue the conversation with Writer, Speaker and Author, Laura Davis in this empowering series on Estrangement for all who walk this path and who name and claim it as their own.
In this second of a four-part series, Jill and Laura will discuss the realities of estranged relationships, when it is and isn’t wise to seek reconciliation, and the four pathways to peace regardless of whether an actual relationship can be healed or restored.
Laura Davis is the author of seven bestselling books, including The Courage to Heal, I Thought We'd Never Speak Again, and a newly released memoir, The Burning Light of Two Stars. The Burning Light of Two Stars tells the story of her embattled relationship with my mother, their determination to love one another, and the dramatic and surprising collision course they ended up on at the end of her life. The book reveals in intimate, page turning detail how Laura made peace with the mother who betrayed her and came to care for her during her final days.
Having walked the path of estrangement from my family of origin for nearly two decades, I have found that estrangement is far too often a subject that goes underground and is unrelatable but one which requires deep re-organizing, deep healing, ongoing re-identification and becoming.
I am compelled to cultivate a safe space to ask others to lay the burdens down of abandonment, betrayal, and begin to reclaim and name the self-honoring that the work takes to live in the world without those who live and have lived with us or those we have chosen to live without.
This is an opportunity to speak about forgiveness. To speak about reclamation of self. To speak about loss. To speak about reclamation of self.
Most importantly, to not turn away. To turn toward.
I am here to reimagine ways to find new language of inclusion and healing around the experience of estrangement that many people walk or have walked.
