I witnessed the gaps in care and communication during my mother's final months of living. My family thought we were prepared, but the hospice care given to my mother led to a negative experience. I remember reflecting on the circumstances that occurred while I was in my mother's room. I became determined to help families from experiencing a negative end of life outcome. I realize not all hospice facilities are equal, which is why I am a hospice volunteer. I am pleased with the professionalism and attention that I have seen at the local hospice facility.
