Altar of Kinship: grief + mourning as a creative act

Hosted by Elizabeth Yochim

Altar of Kinship: grief + mourning as a creative act
A collective grief ritual with movement, music, and poetry to honor loss, especially around motherhood. A sacred space to feel, mourn, and remember—together.

Altar of Kinship is a public grief ritual guided by artist and movement facilitator Elizabeth Yochim, held at the historic Church in Ocean Park in Santa Monica. This month, we gather on Mother’s Day weekend (May 11) to honor the sacred, complex landscape of our relationship to “mother.” Whether you’re grieving the loss of a mother, a strained connection, the experience of mothering, or the grief of not becoming one—this is a space to be held. Through movement, live music, and poetry, we shift grief from isolation to shared remembrance. This ritual welcomes all identities and lived experiences.

Grief Workshop: Wednesday, May 8, 7:30-9pm

Mourning Ritual: Saturday, May 11 | 3:30–5:30pm

Come as you are. All emotions and silences welcome.
