Grief can feel especially heavy when we try to process it only through words. Talking matters, but let us remember that our ancestors have always turned to craft in times of sorrow and anguish. Fibers of Grief is an intimate online space to gather and move grief through our hands—remembering the ancestral wisdom of fiber arts 🧵
Our Monthly Fiber Journey
Each month, we explore grief through a different fiber lens:
Theme 1: Slow Stitching & Embroidery 🪡
We’ll take our time with simple stitches, letting needle and thread slow us down. Each stitch becomes a way to check in with ourselves, to notice what we’re holding, and to let our hands tell the story of our hearts.
Theme 2: Knitting & Crochet 🧶
There’s something calming about the steady rhythm of yarn work. We’ll explore how loops can carry memory, bring comfort, and help us feel more grounded. Our hands know how to weave warmth from what feels unraveled.
Theme 3: Mending, Patching & Darning 🧵
Together we’ll look at how repair can be a form of care. By patching holes or strengthening worn spots, we’ll practice seeing beauty in what’s been mended, and notice how the process can mirror our own healing.
What Happens in Our Sacred Creative Space
During each 90-minute gathering, we'll:
- Let our hearts guide our hands in gentle, mindful making
- Explore the ancestral wisdom of these ancient crafts
- Discover what wants to emerge when grief meets creativity
- Witness each other with warmth, understanding, and care
The Gentle Space We Weave Together
Come as you are to this tender gathering where:
- All forms of grief have a place here—personal or collective, recent or ancestral, death-related or not
- Your stitches don’t need to be perfect
- You’re welcome to share or simply be present in silence
- You don’t need to be an experienced maker (I’m certainly not!) — you just need to be willing to allow the fibers to speak through you
Note: Skill level doesn’t matter here—just a willingness to be curious. This isn’t a class where I’ll be teaching sewing or knitting step by step. I’ll share simple supply suggestions for each theme, but you’re always encouraged to use whatever materials you have on hand. Even if you’ve never stitched before, you’re welcome to explore and play with the fibers in whatever way feels right to you, even if it’s “nontraditional”.
An Invitation to Dance with Your Threads
Join us where creativity meets compassion, where fiber becomes a bridge between sorrow and ease. Come ready to laugh at tangled yarn, marvel at unexpected beauty, and let your threads tell the truth about love, loss, and the gorgeous mess of being human.
Let the threads carry what words can’t—your stories, your sorrows, your love—held gently in our circle.
