Grief at Work: Welcoming Loss & Resilience in the Workplace

Hosted by Ari Simon

Grief at Work: Welcoming Loss & Resilience in the Workplace
Explore how grief can be welcomed (and avoided) at work, practice normalizing loss, and gain practical tools for creating more resourceful, inclusive, and resilient workplace cultures.

How does grief impact your experience at work? What would your workplace be like if loss was more welcomed rather than avoided?

The crises we’ve faced over the past two years and continue to experience, from COVID-19 to racial injustice to climate emergencies and beyond, leave us with a completely natural and necessary need to grieve. But despite all the positive outcomes of healthily grieving, welcoming grief is often challenging, and perhaps nowhere more so than in our workplaces.

As we continue to move through the pandemic and navigate the future of both our work spaces and our professional practices, there’s an urgent need for workplace culture to acknowledge loss in balance with achieving professional goals. As colleagues, coworkers, and teams, learning how to support each other in our most challenging moments is a critical step in creating work cultures that are more equitable, inclusive, and resilient.

In Grief at Work: An Introduction, we’ll begin to work through this challenge. Through this open-to-the-public workshop, we’ll reflect on healthy grieving (and what gets in the way) at work, practice holding space for our own grief, and share tools that help transform workplaces towards ones that encourage healing and resilience.

This workshop will serve as an intro for Grief at Work, a staff training program led by Ari Simon for organizations, companies, and teams to learn key skills for recognizing and responding to grief in the workplace.
