Teaser screening of the feature film I'm Still Here, Love
I’m Still Here, Love is an in-depth look at how social media platforms, savvy politicians, unqualified medical professionals and religious leaders capitalized on a pandemic to spread fear and make a profit off desperate, scared people who questioned the reality of COVID-19 and the validity of the vaccine. And now, millions of people are mourning in silence for fear of being told that their loved ones' deaths are insignificant. The disenfranchised grief they are experiencing is becoming a mental health crisis in itself. Grassroots movements are flourishing in unexpected spaces; black barbershops and salons being one of them. Certified Community Health Workers and barbers Mike Brown and Fred Spry are indirectly saving lives one-by-one in "the Chair." Because people are treated with dignity and respect, even those who are skeptical of the health care system come away reconsidering the value of their health. Instead of the barbershop-talk spreading conspiracy theories, the Shop Spa in Hyattsville, MD is spreading trusted information on COVID-19 and beyond. The film is also a tribute to these warriors' efforts. Join us for a live Q&A session with the director Megan Q. Daniels, co-producers Jessica Dougherty and Jillian Dobson, and other members of the cast following the screening.
