Flowers have long accompanied our relationships with the dead—carried to graves, placed upon altars, offered through ceremony, and used to mark the places where memory and presence meet.

Flowers of Our Ancestors is a three-day gathering weaving anthropology, ethnobotany, ritual, and remembrance to explore the living legacy of love our ancestors continue to carry through us.

Across Día de los Muertos, we will look at the flowers, offerings, stories, and practices through which communities have tended relationships with their dead—while turning toward our own lineages and the ways memory continues to live within the body, family, land, and everyday life.

What continues to flower through us because someone before us loved, tended, survived, remembered, or dreamed?

Throughout the gathering, participants will be invited to tend a living altar of their own—bringing photographs, flowers, foods, candles, or objects that connect them to those they wish to remember.

What does it mean to recognize ourselves as the flowers of our ancestors?

A flower carries the labor of what came before it: seed, soil, rain, root, season, and time. In this sense, remembrance can also become a way of recognizing lineage—of tending what we have inherited and considering what may flower through us.
