Dementia destroys. It can destroy the patient’s ability to function. It can destroy the patient’s family physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, financially, and in their own development as they try to fulfill the patient’s needs.
Death destroys. It destroys every now and every moment of the future of the patient and the world the patient lives in.
In the turbulence of facing dementia the patient may not consider the choice they have of continuing their life as their condition deteriorates, or of ending their life while they are still capable of deciding and doing.
During my dementia journey I’ve made this choice, a choice that is completely personal and is based on considerations which are different for every person. I choose death.
This session does not advocate any position or action in any way. During this session I’ll present the process of choosing between dementia and death that I've gone through, and then the session will be opened for conversation.
