Rituals of Remembrance by Lana S. Sumi

Rituals of Remembrance by Lana S. Sumi
A 2-hour workshop to craft a personal remembrance ritual. Honor a special person, share memories, and connect in a supportive community. Facilitated by artist Lana S. Sumi.

In this in-person workshop, we invite you to honor the memory of someone important in your life who has died. This could be a family member, friend, colleague, or any person whose memory you wish to celebrate. Through creative expression and meaningful connection, participants will engage in reflective writing exercises to create personalized rituals that link everyday moments to cherished memories.

What is a ritual of remembrance? A ritual of remembrance is a life-affirming practice designed to continue a meaningful connection with someone who has died. These rituals can be based on sensory experiences, actions, or reflections, and can range from poignant to playful.

This approach allows you to:

  • Actively celebrate their memory
  • Find comfort in familiar associations
  • Acknowledge their influence on your life in a positive and healing way

We use the structure "When X happens, I can do Y to remember Z."

Workshop activities Our time together will include guided writing prompts and exercises, quiet time for reflection, optional sharing of favorite memories, and community building in a supportive and inclusive environment. Join us to create your personal rituals of remembrance, honoring your special person's lasting impact in ways that foster connection, growth, and healing.

What to bring If able, please bring a photo of the person you are honoring for the remembrance board. Plan to arrive at 11:50am to get settled in, and save time after the workshop to view the beautiful exhibit.

-Space is limited to 12 participants, please register to retain your spot.
