Reimagining Mother’s Day

For many of us, Mother’s Day is not only a time of flowers, Hallmark cards, and brunches, but also a time to mourn and remember our parents, grandparents, and the ancestors who came before them.

At the turn of the last century, Anna Jarvis created the holiday to memorialize her own mother who offered health education to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates, provided medical relief to soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War, and brought former foes on the battlefield back together again in friendship.

Reimagine and its community of collaborators will offer events and experiences that return to the holiday’s traditional roots by focusing on actions such as self-care, care for others, conflict resolution, peacemaking, and ensuring equity for all mothers.
