Sasha Soreff is a choreographer and cancer survivor. Wally Klatch was is living with dementia. As Reimagine Collaborators, they have discovered points of connections in their experiences of illness and disease.
Sasha Soreff and Wally Klatch were not acquainted until they were introduced by Reimagine in late March, based on the strong synchronicity of their activities.
In this gathering, Sasha and Wally explore how Sasha's dance "The Dancer Who Wore Sneakers and Other Tales" illustrates one aspect of Wally’s approach to dementia: “When Living and Dying Dance a Duet, What Music Will You Play?”
Sasha’s and Wally’s backgrounds and experiences share common themes. Sasha's medical conditions including cancer and a painful congenital issue in her feet have brought Sasha to strong awareness of disease and its impact on a person. For Wally, a dance duet was a natural way to describe how dementia created an awareness of how living and dying are a constant presence.
This program will include a dialogue between Sasha and Wally, participatory movement for all levels and abilities, and a sharing of Wally's concepts such as:
Creating My Tombstone >> Living my Lifestone
Sasha Soreff is a New York City-based choreographer, dance teacher, transformational coach, empathy/movement facilitator, and cancer survivor. In workshops, Sasha weaves relational neuroscience, somatic movement, and transformational principles together, to support participants to discover deep self-connection and soulful expression—resulting in powerful, life-enhancing insights.
Wally Klatch was diagnosed with early-stage dementia in October 2022. The trauma of the diagnosis and the results of his condition moved Wally to a place he had not known during his previous 70 years. For these last three years Wally has been living in a world that has different people, different activities, different language, different ways of connecting, and a different view of the world than he had before his diagnosis. For those things that have remained the same such as his family and friends, they and Wally have had to learn how to deal with his new reality. As a Reimagine Collaborator, he has hosted talks and conversations on aging, life-cycle events, and transitions.
