I recently lost my mother unexpectedly to COVID-19 and needed support. I was struck by how so many of the grief spaces I found were primarily for and run by older white people. As a health educator, I later noticed a similar pattern among other POC. I felt compelled to do something. So I created a Facebook support group that grew, organically.
There is not enough research on the subject of Black Grief. The BGI is a supportive and safe place for BIPOC to come and talk through our thoughts and feelings in regards to the loss of loved ones. We are all human beings, but OUR grief and how WE grieve is a bit different. We need a place to talk about our unique experiences and grief without judgment.
