Founded in 1972 by Rabbi Douglas Goldhamer and a group of deaf Jewish leaders, the synagogue grew and now welcomes hearing and hard of hearing people. All services are provided in voice and American Sign Language. We have a strong belief that we are all equal - Jew, Christian, Muslim, Black, White, LGBTQ - and we are all One in God. We also operate a Food Pantry to service the Skokie community. Congregation Bene Shalom also embraces the tradition of Kabbalah, or Jewish Mysticism, and offers regular Kabbalistic Meditation Prayer services.
