That discovery -- as well as my many drawings and paintings hanging throughout the house and the 12 published books I’ve written and illustrated – made me think that perhaps I could tell my life’s story through my art, as well as through my recollections. I was reluctant to set out my values and life principles as some sort of guide for my grandchildren to emulate. But I wanted them to really know me and my life’s stories – as well as their legacies that include my parents’ and grandparents’ stories as well. My sketches, drawings, and paintings – and my challenges and joys in creating them – are an important part of who I am. I wanted my grandchildren to know about them, too. My recently published book, Life on the Page: A Graphic Memoir, is the result.
