Our Story
St. Agatha Catholic Parish is a vibrant Catholic community of 300 mostly African American families in Chicago’s westside North Lawndale neighborhood. For 126 years the church has been a place of hope, responding to all who are in spiritual, emotional, and physical need. St. Agatha offers educational and formational opportunities to fortify and strengthen families in the community, working to addr...
St. Agatha Catholic Parish is a vibrant Catholic community of 300 mostly African American families in Chicago’s westside North Lawndale neighborhood. For 126 years the church has been a place of hope, responding to all who are in spiritual, emotional, and physical need. St. Agatha offers educational and formational opportunities to fortify and strengthen families in the community, working to address the source of the ongoing violence and trauma that plagues North Lawndale.
St. Agatha has been doing Restorative Justice work for 9 years thru conflict resolution and communication training for over 500 parents, as well as through peace circles in schools, Cook County Jail, Juvenile Detention and at the parish.
The church conducts parent leadership and organizing work and is part of organizing efforts for criminal justice reform, ex-offender empowerment and police accountability.
