display description

Soft Endings is a podcast by MavenHaven about grief, death, caregiving, remembrance, legacy, and living tenderly in a brutal world. It offers gentle, honest reflections on loss and mortality, while making space for the emotional, spiritual, and practical realities of being human in times of transition.

Through personal reflection and grounded conversation, Soft Endings explores what it means to grieve, to care for one another, to prepare, to remember, and to keep living in the face of impermanence. The podcast is especially rooted in affirming, justice-aware care for queer and trans people, people of color, caregivers, and others whose grief and end-of-life experiences are often overlooked or underserved.

This is a resource for people who want language, companionship, and meaning around grief, not just advice. Listen here: https://substack.com/@lettsmavenhaven?r=7uru1f&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=stories&shareImageVariant=image

Our Inspiration

Soft Endings was inspired by years of sitting near grief—in hospice, in counseling spaces, in caregiving, in death work, and in my own life. Again and again, I saw how people are expected to keep functioning while carrying enormous emotional weight, often without spaces that feel honest enough, soft enough, or human enough to hold what they’re going through. I wanted to make something that could sit beside people in those moments. I was inspired by the tenderness and raw truth that show up around loss, by the people I’ve witnessed loving each other through impossible transitions, and by the belief that conversations about death, grief, and impermanence can help us live more fully. I also wanted to create something rooted in care for queer and trans people, people of color, caregivers, and others whose stories are too often underserved in traditional grief spaces. Soft Endings is the kind of resource I wanted to exist: grounded, companioning, reflective, and unafraid of the hard truths.
