A free, accredited e-learning course Harnessing the Power of the Arts for End-of-Life Care on the myCME platform. Using compelling videos, intimate personal stories, and moving imagery, the course, relevant to healthcare professionals, hospice workers, and caregivers offers guidance and inspiration for using the Arts as a tool for supporting patients’ beliefs, traditions, and customs in innovative and meaningful ways. The course features artists, folklorists, tradition bearers, storytellers, and two National Heritage Award winners. It takes about an hour and a half to complete, and offers the learner 1.75 continuing education credits. Supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Our Inspiration
Two high school friends, Steve Zeitlin and Phyllis Arn Zimmer took entirely different career paths, and didn't see each other for many years. Steve became a folklorist and the founding director of City Lore in New York. Phyllis became a Nurse Practitioner who taught at the University of Washington in Seattle and founded the Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation. The two stayed in touch and when a grant opportunity arose to bring together the arts with public health, began collaborating on an e-learning course for healthcare professionals, Harnessing the Power of the Arts for End-of-Life Care. Both felt there was a need for an educational resource that would provide information about the use of the Arts to achieve culture-sensitive care at the end-of-life.
