Immortal - A Conversation With My Dog
Two weeks ago
Time stood still
Your breath vanished in the early morning hours
Hush, hush
Bye!
While we mortals were asleep
Everything changed all at once
You flew into the skies, to the clouds, the stars, the moon
The Milky Way
Silver
Peace
Irridecent light
My heart
Heavy with sorrow
Bloody sadness dripping all over me
In this liminal space
Where all is and nothing ends
Eternity
Everything looks the same, and nothing is as it was just a moment ago
The teapot on the stove, the shoes near the door, the dog crate in my bedroom
Between waking and sleeping, I dream you into being
Thinking of our last walk, which was so long ago
Little creaky steps and sniffs until the very end
I long for the pitter-patter of your feet
The soft moans of content when I scratch you behind your ears
Your eyes, oh, I miss them so
Your scent, the whiff of dog
That smell is a memory now
Past tense
Treasures
Your leash, the collar, and your harness
Tokens of a life well lived
I wait here and peek behind the veil until we meet again in the other world
And every so often, a part of me flies away with you
The heavens are your playground now
Go, run, and bark with wild abandon!
I feel you - my spirit prince.
The embrace of a love, so vast that it fills the entire universe
